A real time clock runs on a coin cell and keeps time for you even when the power is lost. Real Time Clock (RTC) Module uses DS1307 IC to keep track of the current year, month, day as well as time. The module comes fully assembled and includes a small Lithium coin cell that will run the RTC for a minimum of 5 years without an external power supply. Coin cell used is CR2032. This battery is more than enough for the DS1307 IC since the power consumption of IC is fairly low.  DS1307 RTC breakout board is accessed using I2C protocol.  DS1307 is driven by an external 32.768 kHz oscillator.
